Clients praise Henry Hughes IP for their helpfulness in trade mark protection, noting clear explanations and efficient handling of lapsed marks. However, one client strongly criticizes the firm for failing to identify basic information to IPONZ, advising against registering a full suite of services, and making the client feel inadequate. Specific concerns include the lawyer's dismissive attitude and the resulting costly legal issues. Overall, experiences are polarized, with high praise for straightforward cases but serious complaints about poor advice and communication in complex situations.

Henry Hughes were amazing to deal with - they helped our business to protect its trade mark after it lapsed without any hassle, addressing any issues that arose and clearly explaining everything to us in a way that made sense. Suffice to say that Henry Hughes will be our port of call moving forward for all and anything intellectual property related.
Terrible! Wouldn't give them any stars if possible. I spent thousands of dollars getting my business name trade marked in NZ through Henry Hughes all because they failed to identify basic information to IPONZ. Also, I'd researched and identified all my services and potential trade marks. Henry Hughes advised me that I didn't need to register for 90% of my products and services. When I pushed my case for them to justify not registering my full suite of products and services their lawyer made me feel stupid and inadequate. She made me doubt myself completely. In retrospect I should have found another lawyer straight away. Normally I would have. Not sure why I didn't in this instance. My mistake! That won't happen again! However, I now have someone else trading under my business name because they are trading with it under Marks that Henry Hughes advised me against. I've already spent $2,800 just for legal advice (from a different IP laywer). It will cost thousands more if I want to pursue this, and there's no guarantees I'll win. I would strongly advise against using Henry Hughes. Or if you do, make sure you research all your Marks first, and do not let Henry Hughes bully you into reducing your IP. If they do bully you or make you feel inadequate, go to another lawyer. I wish I had!
